Integrated Stimulus Guide - Public Safety: Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants Print Share

Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants
$2 billion included for Byrne/JAG program. 

New Mexicowill receive $18.3 million in formula funding.

Administrator: New Mexico Department of Public Safety

Purpose: Formula funding to state and local police forces to help prevent, fight, and prosecute crime. Sixty percent of the funding allocated to be administered by the State and forty percent set aside for local governments.  

Activities: Programs for law enforcement programs; prosecution and courts; prevention and education; corrections and community corrections; drug treatment and enforcement; planning, evaluation, and technology improvement; crime victim and witness programs.  Funds can be used to pay for personnel, overtime, and equipment. Funds provided to states can be used for statewide initiatives, technical assistance and training, and support for local and rural jurisdictions
