Giving Capitol Tours

Interns give tours of the U.S. Capitol to New Mexicans who visit Washington. We usually give about five tours a week. Every intern has a ``Tour Day" about once a week and is responsible for the tours that day.

At first, we didn't know much about the Capitol. We took the official tour several times to learn our way around and get a better understanding of all there is to see. By the the end of the internship, we were all seasoned tour guides!

Photo of two interns showing a woman, her husband, and their young boy a visual map of Capitol Hill in the Capitol building.

A close up phot of a male intern pointing out a specific building on the Capitol Hill model in the Capitol, while the woman and her young son look on.

Kevin and Eric show the model of Washington located in the Capitol. This model is used to help those who are visually impared locate important sites on Capitol Hill.

Photo of a mail intern talking about the mural in the Capitol dome. The woman visitor with him looks up at the mural, while her family and two other visitors stand nearby.

There are many wonderful paintings and murals in the Capitol, and many of them -- as this photo demonstrates -- are overhead! This family is admiring the painting ``Apotheosis of George Washington," which graces the inside dome of the Capitol.
