Environment
Balancing Economic Growth and Environmental Protection

Many communities struggle with difficult choices regarding environmental protection and job creation. While some view these choices as mutually exclusive, you may find that it's not so clear.  During this seminar you will discuss some of the tradeoffs in making these decisions. Drawing from real world examples, such as oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and hypothetical exercises dealing with local communities, you will discuss how these issues impact people and the environment, both locally and nationally.

Questions to Consider:

  • How do you weigh the tradeoffs between environmental protection and economic development?
  • How can you pursue economic development while protecting the environment?
  • When is one more important than the other?
